Moving Back to Alberta

Bloged in Moving to Alberta by Mike Friday September 17, 2004

Saskatchewan is boring. I’ve been living here since sometime late March. I managed to get a job (and hold it) since April. I haven’t been able to save very much of it, due to unexpected expences. Hopefully though, I’ve gotten past some of my inabilities to save, and will be able to do so better.

So I have a new section on the site, called Moving to Alberta. I haven’t quite decided if I’m goingto Edmonton or Calgary - it all depends on what they have to offer me. Some have called me a flip-flopper. I’d rather flip-flop than remain stuborn in the wrong direction. I like to call that being adaptive.

When I get a paycheck, I’m depositing it into savings at a TD Green Machine. I only have $200 cach back which I then put into checking. After that, I don’t intend on taking anything out of savings. $400/mo seems pretty good to me, even if I have some expences to take care of, like getting my car in order and paying some bills and the like. I have all of my expences prioritized out and I have an estimate of what I’ll have by the end of the year, which is when I’m aiming to make my move.

What’s causing me to flip-flop? My brother, my sister, and, of course, girls. Being able to get a job might also take part of the decision. I hope that’s not a big deal, although I had a hell of a time getting a job in Calgary. Getting one here was a complete fluke, although it felt natural enough of a process. There’s lots that I’ve learned here so far, and lots more I hope to.

So I raise my bottle of Coca-Cola to moving back home. Wish me luck.

Hmm

I feel very frustrated today with the stupid people. Rogers screwed my account up to begin with, but I wound up paying them for a month that I shouldn’t of. Now they’re telling me that I havn’t. Well, tomorrow, they’re going to be talking to me for quite sometime.

I signed up for the $3 navigate plan. It showed up on my bill. Tonight, they told me that wasn’t the plan, that was just pay-per-use. Okay… sounds possible… I also signed up with the $15 essential plan with Enhanced voicemail. That wasn’t activated until I called *611 and had them put it on there. They claimed it was just a misunderstanding between me and the person that set up my account. Which has happened before, I can confuse myself when I think too much… but I just don’t think I’d forget to double check for something like that… especially when the contract I had printed out said that those where the features I had.

The reason Rogers called was to offer me free things. Which is all well and good, but they were the things that I had signed up for in the first place. Now that I’m getting them, I’m getting them for a few months for free. Which is dandy. And so I asked about a message they had left on my VoiceMail a couple days ago. I’m approaching my credit limit. Ihaven’t paid my first bill, she tells me. Which is bull, ’cause I did within an hour of getting it. They’ve also issued a new one. $25 to add to the month I’ve paid for for things like long distance, which isn’t included in my monthly fee. Fine, I think, I did go out of the province, and used it quite a bit. BUT that first bill isn’t paid. Which is bull, ’cause I got a confirmation number from my bank that says otherwise.

I feel like I’ve been dealing with my fair share of stupid people lately, but I think that I’ll be able to vent some of that on some of the people responsible for the screw-ups that have been heading my way.
