Service!

m: Me, the helpful tech helping out with sales calls
c: The Satelite TV Customer, no doubt leeching the signal, and trying to get some free parts and service while he’s at it.

c: “Hi there, I have a satellite dish, and was wondering if you do trade-ins.”
m: “Are you looking to switch satellite providers, or are you wanting a newer dish?”
c: “Actually what happened was I had a powere surge, and the power on my receiver goes out a lot.”
m: “Have you called Star Choice Tech Support about the issue? If they think that it’s a n issue covered under simplesat, they will cover the costs of fixing it.”
c: “Well, I was talking to my friend here, and he was saying that we could get two receivers now for the price of one…”

True: New customers can get two receivers, and will receive a programming credit for one.
False: Exisiting customers aren’t eligible, and receivers must be on the same account. Don’t ask about sharing accounts.

m: “Unfourtunatly, that offer isn’t available for existing customers, only new customers. If you’d like to replace your receiver, they’re available from as low as $79.95, dependng on the features you want…”
c: “His receiver went down too, you see, we were both struck by lightning, and we moved…”

So why’s he complaining about his dish, it it’s still on the old home.

m: “Star Choice has a move program available, where they will supply a new dish and install it for free.”
c: “Well, I moved about a year ago…”
m: “Did you do the installation yourself sir?”
c: “Yes I did.”

Okay, so Star Choice might no have their new address/landlocation. This is getting annoying. I recommend the move program again, because then, at least StarChoice will know about the move.

m: “Okay sir, I recommend you call Star Choice tech support, because if they say it’s under simplesat warrenty, they will have records of it, issue us a work order, and will cover the cost of repairs/replacements. If you work through us, they won’t cover the costs, and you’ll have to pay for it.”

After hearing him talk about looking around forother prices, I try to tell him that Star Choice sets their prices, and won’t find anything different going anywhere else. After a while, he says he’ll call Star Choice, in that “Yeah, sure” tone - I hope the next store he’ll no doubt call has better luck.

That’s just wrong…
